Meet the Chickens: Mary Magdalene
Name: Mary Magdalene
Breed: Easter Egger
Gender: Hen
Egg Color: Blue
Role in Flock: Nice Girl
Mary was a bossy pullet, but she grew up to be a sweetheart. She was one of our original hens, and the first one to start laying. She is a pretty girl, and friendly enough to sit on your knee while eating crack. Most of the hens lay eggs and leave it at that – but Mary sings a long, loud, proud song, every time. We think it goes something like this: “Blue! Did you see that? Blue! I laid a blue one! Blue, blue, blue! If you could lay a blue egg, you’d sing too!”
